A curtain wall is used for high rise buildings and it is a thin aluminum framed wall. The walling system can come with different fillings which include metal panels, glass, and thin stones. The walling system is attached to the structure of the building. However, it does not carry the load of the roof or any floor.

Components of Curtain Walling

The system contains four components which are Transom, Vision Glass, Mullions, and Anchor.

Type of curtain walling

Stick Curtain Wall System

In this, the components are assembled one by one on the building structure. This type of system is mostly used in low-rise buildings or in small regions. It is not suitable for high-rise buildings because exteriors access is also required. The system is flexible as the changes or adjustments can be made onsite. Additionally, the shipping cost is also very less.

Unitized Curtain Wall System

If you choose this type of curtain walling then the parts of the system are assembled in the factory rather than onsite. The size of the system is directly proportional to the total floor height of the structure. The installation is very quick and there is no need for external support. However, the cost of shipping the entire system is quite high. You can see this type of curtain walling in London on almost every building.

Advantages

The most important thing is that it changes the appearance and look of the building as it looks very modern. The system improves thermal efficiency as well as control the spread of fire also.
