Tactile Tiles for Blind People: Codes, Requirements & Solutions in 2026–27
Tactile tiles, more formally called Tactile Walking Surface Indicators (TWSIs), are not decorative floor accessories. They communicate information through texture, contrast and placement to people who are blind, have low vision or use a long cane. Attention indicators warn of a hazard or transition. Direction indicators help establish an understandable route through spaces where other wayfinding cues are limited.
