1.    Choose Gentle Cleansers:

Use a mild, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic cleanser. Avoid products with harsh chemicals, dyes, and fragrances that can irritate sensitive skin.

Cleansers with foaming agents like SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulphate) usually are harsher to the skin and drive away the moisture and natural moisturising factors from the skin. This is especially useful during the colder climates when the skin is usually dry.

2.    Moisturize Regularly:

Apply a hypoallergenic and fragrance-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Look for products with ingredients like glycerineq or shea butter or hyaluronic acid.

Moisturising your skin immediately after a bath or a face wash is the simplest and most important way to take care of your skin. It helps to lock the moisture inside and keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day.

3.    Sun Protection:

Protect your skin from the sun by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. UV rays can exacerbate sensitivity and irritation.

A sunscreen can be applied in the morning over your moisturising cream. It is essential to remember that a single application of sunscreen protects your skin from UV rays for a maximum of 4 hours. So, it is essential to reapply your sunscreen every 4 hours if you are out in the sun for long enough.

4.    Pat Dry, Don't Rub:

Gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel after washing. Avoid rubbing, as this can further irritate sensitive skin.

5.    Do not apply any fairness creams or steroid containing creams

One of the most common reasons for sensitive skin is application of steroid creams or fairness creams. A lot of these so-called fairness creams contain steroids like Mometasone or Clobetasol which tends to thin your skin substantially.  These creams may lead to redness and unwanted hair growth on the face.

6.    Avoid Hot Water:

Use lukewarm water for bathing and washing your face. Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.

7.    Avoid Harsh Ingredients:

Stay away from products containing alcohol, retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and other potentially irritating ingredients.

8.    Consult a Dermatologist:

If your sensitivity persists or worsens, consult with a dermatologist. They can help identify the specific triggers for your sensitivity and recommend appropriate treatments.
