Bhrigu Lake Trek: A Scenic Alpine Adventure from Manali
The Bhrigu Lake Trek is one of the most captivating high-altitude treks in Himachal Pradesh, offering an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and Himalayan adventure. Located around 20 km north of Manali, this moderately challenging trek is perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers looking for a short yet scenic experience.
Starting from Gulaba, the trail ascends through lush meadows, dense cedar and oak forests, and eventually opens up to stunning alpine grasslands. These meadows, often referred to as “India’s Switzerland,” are filled with wildflowers in the summer and offer panoramic views of snow-capped peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Deo Tibba, and the Seven Sisters.
The highlight of the trek is the glacial Bhrigu Lake itself, nestled at an altitude of approximately 14,000 feet. Steeped in mythology, it is believed to be the meditation site of the sage Bhrigu. The lake remains frozen for most of the year, with its ever-changing colors reflecting the dramatic Himalayan sky.
